An Unexpected Nomination
Recently, I received an unexpected yet deeply appreciated email—one that informed me I had been nominated for a WayfinderWoman of the Year award. To whoever took the time to put my name forward, I want to say a heartfelt thank you.
WayfinderWoman’s mission is to celebrate women who have overcome adversity or have helped others to do so. Reading that someone sees me in that light was a truly humbling moment. Like many business owners, I don’t often stop to reflect on my own journey—I’m too busy focusing on supporting those around me.
The Journey of BLN
BLN, in its earliest form, began as Hailsham Shop Local back in 2016. It was a small initiative designed to help local businesses by providing reviews and hosting networking events. When the pandemic hit, everything changed. The group, like so many businesses at the time, almost disappeared. But after lockdown, when I became self-employed as a Virtual Assistant, I saw an opportunity to evolve and create something with new energy and purpose.
That’s when Business Local Network was born. It expanded beyond Hailsham, reaching across East Sussex, offering business owners a space where networking isn’t about pitching—it’s about genuine conversations, collaboration, and meaningful support. And, as the business landscape shifted, so did the way BLN operated, ensuring that our community always had the support it needed.
More Than an Award—A Moment of Reflection
While I wasn’t shortlisted for the final 10 nominees, the fact that someone thought I deserved this recognition means the world. Running a business can be tough, but moments like this remind me why I do it. It’s about community, resilience, and lifting each other up.
So, to the kind person who nominated me—thank you. Your thoughtfulness has made me pause, reflect, and appreciate the journey so far. And to everyone in the BLN community—this nomination is as much about you as it is about me. Your support, your engagement, and your willingness to show up for each other is what truly makes BLN special.

And the journey doesn’t stop here! BLN is expanding again—with thriving groups in Hailsham, Eastbourne, and Uckfield, we’re now looking to bring our unique networking approach to Lewes in the next few months.
